Plateau

After starting working out about 6 months ago, I have reached my first major plateau :( This has been pretty disheartening and I’m not sure where to go from here. This is unfortunately the theme of my workouts the past week or so.

Teaching classes has proven to be more stressful that I thought so I have decided to take a break in order to better work on myself. Increasing my weight in Body Pump is something that needs to happen but I’m thinking I should hit the weight room to push past this wall. This is all very stressful. Stress has also led to less intense workouts and eating a lot of pizza. I can see my fitness starting to slide but I want to progress. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated?

Gravity gropes me

Having spent some time with a class of 2nd graders this morning, I found some unexpected inspiration.  Today's story is the same old story, but this time in a little different format.  I enjoyed this exercise so much, you may be subjected to more.

I sincerely hope you appreciate the short-windedness of my briefest post ever.

Team Teaching: Quick Update

Tonight I had my first experiencing team teaching Body Pump. I taught the squat track and shadowed the rest of the class. I’m sad to report that I choked a little during my track. Getting in front of a class for the first time, my nerves got the most of me and I spaced on some of the choreography and coaching cues. my next shot is Saturday morning, I’m going to practice and hopefully it will go over better. I don’t want to be super negative but I’m pretty discouraged and disappointed in my performance.

Training Weekend

Yesterday I finished my big Body Pump initial training weekend and I’m happy to report I got a full 5/5 pass!!!!

(UPDATE, I celebrated my passing by buying my domain name. Glutenfreefitnessjourney.com is officially mine :) I can’t wait to see what the future holds)

This training consisted of presenting a track from the current Body Pump release, instruction on choreography, technique, and coaching. Training also tested each persons personal fitness level. Starting this weekend I was a little afraid that I wouldn’t survive. I soon learned that of all the participants I was the newest to working out as well as the newest to Body Pump. One of the other participants as also assigned the squat track which was meant we all did double squats all weekend, WOW my legs were sore today. On the final day there was a fitness test which was a 40 minute workout that pushed me to my limits and beyond. During the past two days I worked out harder and longer that I have in my entire life! Despite my initial concerns I was glad/ surprised I was able to keep pace with athletes who have competed in triathlons, marathons, and other athletic events. This was by far one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. Now that I have passed initial training I have 60 days to submit a video of myself teaching a Pump class to Les Mills. After they approve my video I will be a certified Body Pump instructor.

This event was also close to a milestone in my journey so I thought it was worth addressing. It’s been about 6 months since I started this blog and my journey to fitness, here’s a picture I took on day 1.

Now here’s some photos I took this evening, I haven’t really realized the major changes in my body until I looked at these side by side.

About to hit the road!

I am headed up north for my big Body Pump training weekend. A lot of Hannah’s family lives near where my training is and they were nice enough to let me use their home. As I type this I am in the process of packing and getting ready to get out the door. After my drive I have a long night of going over my choreography and coaching.

There probably won’t be a proper post about my experience until Monday but if you would like short updates along the way I will be tweeting and posting a little on my facebook page. Here are the links to those pages. Ahhhhhhh really nervous and excited.

Being A Shadow: Quick Post

Tonight I met with one of the Pump instructors half an hour before class to go over form one last time before my training this weekend. I now feel really confident in pushing my butt back and down during the squat track :)

During class she invited me up on stage to shadow her during the shoulders track, which is the 2nd track I’ll be presenting at training. Surprisingly being on stage wasn’t as scary as I thought, which is saying a lot from someone who was always afraid of giving presentations in high school. When class was over The instructor and members gave me a final good luck, my gym is so awesome. I couldn’t have even signed up for this training without my gyms support as well as all of you readers. My next 2 days will be filled with finishing my choreography and coaching memorization. I’m sooooo excited and nervous!!!
